I purchased this car in the San Francisco area while I lived in California. It was converted to a Shelby clone some time in the '80s. I made the most of my time with it cruising the PCH, tracking it at Willow Springs, being a member of LASAAC, going to shows at Shelby's in Gardena, and generally adding miles whenever I could! I brought it with me when I relocated back to Canada.

Purchased as a driver and have had both the exterior and interior redone. Very excited to have won Best in Class 60's Mustang at the 2020 Motorama show. Thanks to George for his efforts in organizing and setting up the GMHA club display.

1965 Mustang Convertible in Rangoon Red
Original 2bbl 289 that has recently been upgraded to a 4bbl. The car was born with a 3-speed automatic transmission but was upgraded to a T5 by the original owner. Wider tires mounted on Scott Drake 16x7 Styled Chrome Wheels have also been added.
The car is loaded with options, some are original to the car and some were added in the last rebuild by the original owner. Full console, Day / Nite mirror, Deluxe remote drivers side mirror & passenger side mirror, remote trunk release, luggage rack, back up lights, Rotunda trunk and engine lights. As well, as a number of GT options have been added; including the Pony interior, Rally-pack, trumpet exhaust through the rear valance, GT fog lights, & chrome trim pieces. The car also has the original window sticker, manuals and owners card.
The car came off the Ford assembly line in Detroit on September 4, 1964 and delivery was taken on Sept 12 from Hymer Ford Sales in Berea Kentucky. The original window sticker price was $3193.40. The car then lived in Michigan for some time before retiring to Florida, where is stayed until 2004. After a major re-build, it was then sold to a fellow in Troy Michigan who in an ironic twist of fate, 3 years later, ended up being transferred by his company to Florida. That is when he put the car up for sale and I picked it up and brought it to Canada, where it will hopefully live out the rest of its life.
This is the fourth Mustang I have had. I started with Mustangs when I bought a brand new ’79 Turbo Cobra, then moved to an ’84 GT 5.0, and then finally to a ’90 LX 5.0. Given an option of an old one or a new one, I chose to go with the year that started it all.

Black, 302, 5 speed.
Front disc brake conversion, rack & pinion with coil overs, 5.0L upgrade, T5 Trans, 9” posi. rear end with aluminum spacers to lower stance, tilt steering. Just getting ready to switch her over to EFI and change the rear drums to discs and the rear suspension to 4 link with coil overs, just for starters.
My dad was a big part of how I got into cars in the first place. At the age of four in 1967 he took me to Speed Sport down at the CNE Automotive Building. He was hoping to get me into Motorcycles as he had a Harley at the time.
I walked in the front doors of that building and saw the custom car The Red Baron and it was all over but for my dad’s tears. When we got home my mom asked how it went to which my father responded, “He’s a Car Guy.”
From then on my father fed that my passion for cars and we never missed Speed Sport till it stopped being presented. So much did he feed that passion that one late night, he woke me up to watch the Late Show and what did I see but the chase scene in Bullet. I went from being a car guy to a Mustang guy in the time it took that fastback to go from 1st to 2nd gear.
I purchased my first Mustang, a black 2006 Pony Package, and have enjoyed being in the GHMA ever since. My dad past away a year ago last February and didn’t get to see me purchase my 65 Coupe Resto Mod, which I intend to take further than it is now. We would have had a blast working on it together.

1965 Mustang Convertible “C” code. Built June 1965 in Dearborn Michigan. Originally was a Florida car, imported to Canada from the US in 1982. Pepper gray metallic (Eleanor’s colour from the movie remake “Gone in Sixty Seconds.") The 289 V8 Engine & transmission were rebuilt by Legendary Motorcar in 1999. Options added during 2006 Restoration: Fog lights, GT Instrument Cluster, Rally Pac, centre console, Alpine stereo in glove box, added original period correct AM radio and Pony Interior seat covers.
My son Derek found the project car on the Auto Trader in April of 2005 and showed the ad to me; at age 18 at that time, he was really excited wanting us to go have a look at it. Once the garage door was opened Derek had whispered saying that: “I should buy the car.”
So I did, knowing that I had to put a lot of work into it, but I still could enjoy it until the time came. We cruised around in it for two summers and took it to Guelph to have a complete restoration done. The convertible was stripped right down in December 0f 2006. Derek and I went over every Saturday to see how the car was progressing. Joe Galvao was very meticulous in his work and treated the project like it was his own… For me it was a labour of love making trips to Carlisle every Spring and Fall bringing back parts for the restoration. During the winter months of 2007 the UPS courier and I were on a first name basis because of the numerous parts purchases that I also made online through CJ Pony Parts. Joe allowed me to help out where ever I could and we became great friends even after the project was completed in July of 2007. The experience sure taught me a number of things related to restoring a vintage car. The ’65 Convertible has won a number of awards over the last 9 years and I have driven well over 11,000 miles in it since the restoration.
I have no reason to be selling the car anytime soon, so we’ll be putting more enjoyable miles on it in the future summers to come.

Although I've had this car for 18 years I originally installed a used 302 of questionable origin and mileage that was still running fine after 98,500 miles in my car... when I pulled it out to install a creation of my own. 1966 Original short block and bottom end. New rings, thanks Bill. 1970 heads, CompCam 4x4 Windsor Cam and lifters, Eldelbrock, 600CFM Holley, Pertronix, Hipo Headers, dual ss exhaust, 4 core desert rad, closed with catch can ('67 Camaro Windshield washer bucket), electric fan. From 2008 to date this combo only has around 5,000 miles on it. Always starts, pulls like a champ, gets 21MPG hwy. At 75-80 MPH
First AOD installed in Canada, Lentech valve body and non lock up torque converter. Thanks Mr Transmission Etobicoke. Rolling shell when I got it. All of the above plus Boss Springs and HD leafs in back. Lowered 1". HD Sway bar and poly bushings all round. Manual 4x4 Truck master cyl, Granada spindles/drilled slotted rotors/calipers loaded with EBC Green Stuff pads. NOS rear brake shoes, thanks Bill, again! Recently 15" 10 spoke Shelby rims shod with Yokohamas, LED tail lights, rack and pinion next.
Took my first ride in 1966 Mustang in Florida in the back seat, with the Hertz rental stickers all over it to tell the criminals you were from out of town vacationing. They don't do the stickers any more. I was hooked! I think is was blue. I didn't care... I was 5! So that was 50 yrs ago.

The colour is Signalflare Red with a deluxe Pony parchment interior. It features C-4 automatic transmission with console, power steering, brakes and top. It also has GT lamps, wire wheel discs and a luggage rack.
Since we've owned it the little red pony has garnered a plethora of awards and trophies.

It's been a long journey with this Mustang over the years. To think I almost bought a 68 Camaro instead .. har
The rebuilt 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air engine, complete CJ Holley Carb and correct transmission are all ready to be installed. But I am hesitant to do so... I really like the 351 Cleveland engine it currently has. Too many fond memories with the car the way it is. Besides, once it's done- all I can do is drive it. Building and tinkering is half the fun, I don't ever want it to be complete. That would take away the magic of owning this incredible vehicle for me.
I've blown up the 351 engine on the highway and rebuilt it. Twisted the internals of the FMX transmission like a pretzel twice already, once at Mosport Race Track and another time in a bit of "spirited" driving.
Break it and build it better I say – it will always be a work in progress.
